HS ROUNDUP (Jan. 6): Wallace leads Starpoint to 2OT win

Sophomore Ashley Wallace had 23 points and 15 rebounds to lead Starpoint to a 60-54 double-overtime win over Williamsville East in ECIC II girls basketball action Tuesday.
“When Ashley plays 100 percent, she is one of the best athletes on the floor,” Starpoint coach Marisa Gallo said.
Catie Hale, who hit five clutch free throws during the two overtimes, added 13 points and Natalie Whitman had nine points and 13 rebounds for the Lady Spartans (5-5 overall, 4-0 ECIC II). Meha Bakhai had 11 points for the Flames (5-3, 4-1).
Lew-Port 57, Niagara Falls 43
Kristine Ripson had a career-high 28 points and 12 rebounds to lift the Lancers to the Niagara Frontier League win. Chelsea O’Laughlin added 14 points and Emily Marin had five steals for Lew-Port (3-3 overall, 1-2 NFL). Aquilah Thomas, Lakea Crittenden and Clovis Thomas each had 11 points for the Falls (2-5, 0-3).
Ken East 55, N-W 38
Jordyn Broas recorded a triple-double with 11 points, 14 rebounds and 11 blocks to help the Bulldogs to the NFL win. Joelle Pollak added a game-high 14 points and Christina Allessandra had 12 for East (4-4 overall, 2-1 NFL), which outscored the host Falcons 18-4 in the second quarter. Kayle Oddo had 10 points and Katie Kroening added nine for N-W (6-2, 1-1).
Lockport 66, NT 23cut from TON
Caroline Randall had 16 points to help the Lady Lions cruise to the NFL win. Sisters Leah and Emma Sobieraski added 10 points apiuece for LHS (6-1 overall, 3-0 NFL), which jumped out to a 23-3 lead after the first quarter. Lacey Richards led NT (0-3) with eight points.
Ken West 46, Grand Island 43
The visiting Blue Devils got 20 points from Ashley Krier in picking up the non-league win. Also for West (5-2 overall, 3-0 NFL), Jenna Rickan had nine points. Kristin Wegrzyn paced Grand Island (4-5, 1-2) with 14 points.
Wilson 38, Barker 14
Molly Curry had nine points, five rebounds and four steals to help the Lakewomen earn the big Niagara-Orleans Leaguie win. Also for Wilson (6-2 overall, 2-0 N-O), which sprinted out to a 10-0 lead after the first quarter, Lindsay Frauen had eight points and seven steals and Sam Buckner added 10 rebounds. Alexus Targus led Barker (1-2) with six points.
Tonawanda 42, Alden 29
The Warriors, who were led by Karissa Dolney’s 24 points, jumped out to a 17-4 lead after the opening eight minutes and never looked back in ECIC IV action. Dolney added five steals and four rebounds and Deanna Bowers chipped in with seven points, five steals and four rebounds for THS (8-2 overall, 4-0 ECIC IV). Lindsey Boling led Alden (1-5, 1-3) withg six points.
Junior Varsity
n Chamari Russell had 16 points and Danielle Gianquinto added 10 for NFHS (6-3) in a 50-27 win over Lew-Port.
n Kailey Walck had 13 points and Brianne Hebeler added 10 for N-W (9-0) in a 34-18 win over Ken East. Katie Colb had eight for East.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Ken East 60, N-W 47
Victor Cacho set the offensive tone early and finished with 12 points and eight rebounds to lead East to the Niagara Frontier League win. Also for the Bulldogs (2-5 overall, 1-2 NFL), Mike Doherty scored 13, Scott Whitehead had 12 and Jon Anthony Wiltberger added 10. The Falcons (4-5, 2-2) were led by Carl Graff’s 16 points. Dewan Seay added nine for N-W.
Niagara Falls 79, Lew-Port 51cut from NIA
Kelvin Agee had 24 points and 11 rebounds to help the Falls earn the NFL win at the Wolvearena. Also for NFHS (8-0 overall, 2-0 NFL), Mike Crumpton had 12 points and Davon Marshall added 11. Robby Seyler led Lew-Port (4-5, 0-2) with 21 points.
NT 67, Lockport 65cut from TON
Aaron Davis had 28 points, seven rebounds and six assists as the host Lumberjacks earned their first NFL win of the season. Lucas Pichette added 16 points for NT (3-4 overall, 1-2 NFL). Lockport (5-3, 0-3) got 16 points each from Sean Smith and Ethan Randall. Shannon Haynes finished with 12 points and eight assists. Haynes’ 3-point-attempt at the buzzer that would have given Lockport the win just missed, with Davis providing good defense on the play.
GI 65, Ken West 59 (OT)cut from TON and NIA
Jonas Stalyga had 26 points and 10 rebounds and Greg Feathers added 14 points and 13 rebounds to help keep the Vikings (7-0 overall, 3-0 NFL) unbeaten. Alex Neutz added 14 points off the bench for GI (7-0, 3-0). Mo Bailey and Scott Grandits both scored 16 points for the Blue Devils (5-3, 2-1).
Wilson 73, Barker 39
Ethan Baker scored a game-high 24 points to go along with eight boards and four steals in the Niagara-Orleans win. Collin Okoniewski added nine points for the Lakeman (5-2 overall, 2-0 N-O) and Brennan Moxham put in eight. Barker (2-5, 1-2) was led by Ray Paul’s 15 points and also received 10 from Matt Sweeney.
Newfane 58, Roy-Hart 37
Garth Seefeldt had 16 points and Joe Robison added 14 as the Panthers improved to 1-2 in the N-O. Newfane pulled away with a 21-7 advantage in the fourth quarter. Corey Callaghan had eight for Roy-Hart (1-1).
Medina 50, Akron 46
Levi Pace had 12 points and Demetrius Thompson added 11 points to help the Mustangs to the key N-O win. Medina (2-0 N-O) held a 15-7 fourth-quarter advantage to pick up the win. J.C. Tretter had 20 points to lead Akron (1-1).
Nichols 76, N. Catholic 55
Steve Beck had 14 points, 13 rebounds and three blocks for the Patriots in their Monsignor Martin loss. Lorenzo Joseph led Catholic (3-7 overall, 0-1 MMAA) with 24 points. Will Regan scored 16 for Nichols (10-1, 2-0), while Connor Vandegriff added 14 points.
Timon 81, O’Hara 52
Jordan Wright had 24 points and Justin Mitchell poured in 19 as the host Tigers opened their Monsignor Martin Athletic Association slate with the win. Andy Tate led Cardinal O’Hara (1-8 overall, 0-1 MMAA) with 33 points, including seven 3-pointers. Reggie Martin added 11 in the loss. Both teams were hot from 3-point range, as Timon knocked down 12 and O’Hara had 10 from downtown.
WSE 48, Starpoint 46
Joe Scibilia had 15 points, but it wasn’t enough as the Spartans fell in ECIC II action. Matt Harrington and Joziah Hilkey each had 10 for Starpoint (3-6 overall, 0-3 ECIC II). Jordan Kumro led West Seneca East (1-2) with 17 points.
Junior Varsity
n J.J. Wilkins had 21 points and five steals and Jameere Ollison added 12 points and eight boards as NFHS (6-1) beat Lew-Port (7-1) 55-44.
n Jordan Thilk had 16 points and Tyler Martin tacked on nine for Wilson (4-2, 2-0 N-O) in its 58-27 win over Barker.
Boys Bowling
NT 5, N-W 2
Nick Byers’ 258-750 lifted the Lumberjacks (4-3 NFL) over the Falcons (4-3) in Niagara Frontier League action at Tonawanda Bowling Center. Josh Horab (267-723), Tyler Skoczylas (268-704), Ray Wasieczko (218-621), and Wes Thompson (267-611) helped NT win total pins 3,997-3,668. Chris Lofstrand (249-705), Chuck Bifano (223-658), Chris Brown (225-643) and Joe Klis (225-612) led N-W.
Lew-Port 6, Ken East 1
Pat Broughton had a 276-712 as the Lancers (5-2 NFL) won the total pin count 3,546-3,281 in NFL action at Tonawanda Bowling Center. Blake Pilarski had a 235-658 for the Bulldogs (0-7).
Lockport 5, Niagara Falls 2
Evan Burke had a 257-701 to lead Lockport (4-3 NFL) to a 3,985-3,281 NFL win at Bowl-O-Drome. Frank Porter had the high game of 259-718 for Niagara Falls (5-2) in the loss.
Ken West 5, Grand Island 2
P.T. Foley led Kenmore West (4-3 NFL) to a 3,728-3,609 NFL win over Grand Island (2-5) at Island Lanes. Foley bowled a 253-668 and Sean Bentley bowled a 232-654 in the win. Joey Khreis led the Vikings with a 237-663.
Girls Bowling
Ken East 6, Lew-Port 1
Megan Michaels led the way for East (2-5 NFL) with a 181-507 as it beat Lewiston-Porter (1-6) by a total pin count of 2,816-2,625 in Niagara Frontier League action at Tonawanda Bowling Center. Teresa Lombardi bowled a 187-485 for Lew-Port.
N-W 4, NT 3
Briana Larson bowled a 210-598 to lead the Lady Jacks (5-2 NFL) to a 3,126-3,009 NFL win over the Falcons (4-3). Chelsie Larson contibuted a 202-594 and Angelia Aquilina had the high game of 219 for NT. Sara Smyth and Christina Ventresca each finished with a 533 for the Falcons.
Niagara Falls 4, Lockport 3
Jenna Geiger’s high game and pin total of 256-672 was not enough for Lockport as it lost to the Falls by a 3,344 - 3,316 pin count in NFL action at Bowl-O-Drome. Michelle Granieri bowled a 215-612 and Alyssa Narkiewicz had a 226-601 to lead the Wolverines. This is the second straight year NFHS has given Lockport its first loss. Amber Gunby and Sam Stachura-Lee each finished with a 592 for LHS. Both teams are 6-1.
Ken West 4, Grand Island 3
Shelby Barker led the way for West with a 203-514, as it beat GI in NFL action. Becky Besch added a 199-507 for West (3-4) and Grand Island (0-7) was led by Kelsey Foote who bowled a 186-503. West won the pin count 2,671-2,640.
Boys Swimming
Grand Island 48, Ken West 46
Ben Soos and Ben Bakula helped the opening 200 medley relay team and the closing 400 freestyle relay team win as the Vikings (2-3 NFL) swam to the Niagara Frontier League victory. Zach Adams won two individual events and helped two winning relays for GI. Alex Spatzer was a double-winner for Ken West (1-4).
NT 108, N-W 77
Braden Kozlowski and Scott Farrel were each four-time winners as the Lumberjacks remained undefeated (5-0 NFL) in the NFL. Jacob Henry won the 100 back and jumped off a relay victory for the Falcons (3-2).
Niagara Falls 96, Lockport 87
Sam Cale and Brian Sawma were both four-time winners as the Wolverines (3-2 NFL) kept pace with the Lions (3-2) in the NFL standings. Corey Petrie and Kevin Schroeder each won twice for Lockport.
Lew-Port 58, Ken East 39
The Lancers swept every event to improve to 4-1 in the NFL. Nik Curry and Adam Swift were four-time winners. Ken East is 0-5.
Starpoint 57, Pioneer 42
Marc Toth and Zac Toth each won four times for the Spartans (3-1) in the ECIC III loss.
Cleve Hill 89, Tonawanda 81
The Warriors (2-1) were in it until the last relay against undefeated Cleve-Hill in ECIC IV action. Wade Weber won three events for Tonawanda.
