COLLEGE ROUNDUP (Sept. 29): McKenna lifts NCCC baseball past MCC
Paul McKenna fired a 10-strikeout, one-walk two-hitter as the Trailblazers blanked Monroe Community College 8-0 in the opener of a Sanborn twinbill Sunday. Niagara scored six in the first, including a two-run single by Bo Aquilla. Sean Jamieson went 2-2 with two walks for Niagara.
Monroe held on to win the nightcap 3-2, wrapping up the Blazers’ fall season, despite Tyler Windish’s RBI triple in the sixth. The twinbill featured eight double plays, with each game completed in less than an hour and 45 minutes.

Gartley does in OT for Niagara
Stephanie Gartley scored in the second overtime as the Niagara University women’s soccer team defeated Robert Morris (4-5-0) by a 2-1 count in front of a crowd of 375 at Niagara Field on Sunday afternoon.
Tonawanda native Caitlin Long sent a long header into the box, and Gartley was there to get her head on the ball for the winning goal for Niagara (7-2-1).
“I’m proud of the way the team kept fighting,” head coach Peter Veltri said. “They truly earned this victory, which is a testament to the commitment that these players have to Niagara soccer.”
Schultz gives D’Youville first win
Krissandra Schultz (Lew-Port) scored two second half goals Saturday as D’Youville came from behind to beat SUNYIT for its first win of the season. Brianna Smyth (North Tonawanda) assisted on the game-winning goal with 9:50 left.

Niagara fell in four sets at Rider on Sunday, settling for a weekend conference split. The Purple Eagles won the first set, but lost the next three, 22-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-22.
