Medina’s Becki Traxler has been selected to compete in the annual Can-Am Air International Motocross race to be held Aug. 29 and 30 at the Area 51 Motocross facility in Batavia.
Traxler, 17, is the 2007 track champion at Batavia Motor Speedway in all three flat track divisions. But for the first time in her four years of racing, she’ll attempt to tame the hills, jumps and dirt of Area 51. She will ride a specially prepared Monster Energy Drink sponsored Kawasaki 250f with local support coming from Hebeler’s Sales and Service of Pendleton.
Practice for the event, which expects to draw nearly 200 competitors, is set for noon to 4 p.m. Aug. 29 with races to begin at 10 a.m. Aug. 30. Then on Sept. 6, Traxler will travel to Welland, Ont. for the final race of Canadian National Series. She currently leads both the 450cc and 600cc novice divisions.
King of the Hill race seeks sponsors
Preparation for the 17th annual King of the Hill race at Ransomville Speedway is well under way with lap sponsorships for the 100-lap event on sale now. The sponsorships are available for $20 apiece with 100 percent of the proceeds to go to the streetstock drivers. Streetstock drivers with at least three appearances before Labor Day are eligible. For more information on the event or to purchase a lap sponsorship, contact the speedway office at 791-3602 or e-mail Jeff at jeffo61j@hotmail.com.
• At 7:15 p.m. tonight, Greater Niagara Newspapers and Ki-Po Chevrolet of Ransomville will present a full card of racing action at the Big R.
A note or two on NASCAR
One of the best races of the year in the Sprint Cup Series is on tap for Saturday night — the Sharpie 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway. For some reason, night racing always gets the blood flowing for me. Apparently it’s the same for Kyle Busch, who has won the last two night races of the season, Daytona and Chicagoland.
At Bristol’s spring race, Jeff Burton took the checkered flag. And if I had money, I’d put it on Burton or his Richard Childress Racing teammate Kevin Harvick.
