BILLS NOTEBOOK: Lynch still mum on accident

By Jay Skurski

ORCHARD PARK And so the silent treatment from Marshawn Lynch continues. The Buffalo Bills’ second-year running back, wanted for questioning involving a hit-and-run accident early Saturday in Buffalo involving his SUV, didn’t speak with a modest media gathering after the team’s ninth day of organized team activities Wednesday at the Ralph Wilson Stadium Fieldhouse.

Lynch did offer an unconfirmed “no comment” to an Associated Press reporter, but otherwise chose to stay silent.

There’s still no word from the BPD on whether Lynch will be charged. The delay has led some to wonder whether Lynch is receiving preferential treatment because of his status.

That’s something police have denied, and noted Buffalo attorney Paul Cambria took exception to during an interview with WGR 550 Wednesday morning.

“They’ve obviously impounded his car and gone public with a press conference, so that doesn’t seem to me like he’s getting any special treatment, except to say that he’s being singled out. If this happened to an ordinary individual … this wouldn’t be happening,” Cambria is quoted as saying on a story on the radio station’s Web site, www.wgr550.com.

Lynch participated fully in Wednesday’s workout.

Former Bills cornerback Jerametrius Butler inked a contract with the New Orleans Saints. After playing with St. Louis for the first six years of his career, Butler joined the Bills in 2007, appearing in seven games.

According to Chris Brown at buffalobills.com, a couple members of the team will make radio appearances today. At 8 a.m., quarterback Trent Edwards will be on 97 Rock (96.9 FM). Later in the day, Edwards will join tight end Robert Royal in studio at 4 p.m. on 103.3 FM, The Edge.

Royal will be on 97 Rock at 8:30 a.m. Friday.

The Bills will team up with the American Red Cross to host a blood drive at Ralph Wilson Stadium from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday.

The first 500 eligible presenting donors at the Paul Maguire Club will receive a limited-edition duffle bag. Free parking and refreshments will be available. Bills players will make appearances throughout the day.

Royal and Edwards will sign autographs, as well. Throughout the summer mounts, when blood supply in needed the most, there is a higher demand for donors.

All current and eligible donors are urged to schedule an appointment by calling 1-800-GIVE LIFE or visiting www.DonateBloodNow.org.

Anyone 17 years or older, weighing at least 110 pounds and in good health may be eligible to donate blood. In New York, 16-year-olds may donate blood provided they bring an original signed New York State Informed Parental Permission. The consent form can be found at www.DonateBloodNow.org/16. Identification is required at the time of donation to give blood.

Wednesday’s play of the day came from safety Ko Simpson, who’s returning from a fractured ankle that landed him on injured reserve last season. Simpson picked off an Edwards pass that was slightly overthrown and bounced off the hands of receiver Josh Reed. ... Lee Evans and Edwards were doing some extra work after practice. ... Fred Jackson got some of his teammates going by turning Jabari Greer inside-out on a running play to the left.
