n BOOTLEGGERS/FOLMARS CONSTRUCTION MODIFIED SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT: The 7th annual Bootleggers/Folmars Construction 10-man open modified softball tournament will be held Friday to Sunday in Harborcreek, Pa. The tournament uses 9-man pitching rules and is an A, B, C classification only. No major teams or players. Prizes will be given to the top three finishers. n START SMART: The Town of Tonawanda Start Smart Baseball program is open to kids ages 3 to 5 whose parent or another adult is able to attend the six one-hour sessions at the Sheridan Park Youth Center. Classes will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturdays beginning June 7. Each parent/child group will be charged $60 for residents (proof of residency required at time of registration). Non-residents will pay $75. Fees include a participants manual, individual participation kit and T-shirt. Registration is underway for residents at the Youth, Parks, and Recreation Department or at the Aquatic and Fitness Center. Space is limited and registration ends Friday. n BLUE JAYS EXCURSION: The Town of Niagara Recreation Department will hold a Blue Jays Excursion on July 12. The Blue Jays will play the New York Yankees at 1:05 p.m. Tickets are $68 each, including transportation and one field-level ticket. Tickets can be purchased between 3 and 7 p.m., Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at the Town of Niagara Community Center, 700 Lockport Road in the Town of Niagara. n WHIRLPOOL PARK BLUE JAYS EXCURSION: Whirlpool Park Little League is sponsoring an excursion to see the Toronto Blue Jays play the New York Yankees at 1:05 p.m. July 13 at the Rogers Centre in Toronto. Basketball

n LOCKPORT CLINIC: The Lockport basketball clinic is now accepting registrants for its summer sessions. A modified clinic for those entering grades six to nine will be held July 7 to 11, while another for those in grades nine to 12 (JV/varsity) will be held from July 14 to 18. n NIAGARA FALLS BOYS & GIRLS CLUB/NIAGARA PAL GIRLS SUMMER BASKETBALL CLASSIC: The Niagara Falls Boys & Girls Club is teaming up with the Niagara PAL to recruit teams for the 6th annual Girls Summer Classic. The league is open to all girls with high school eligibility remaining next season. The Summer Classic will take place on Monday nights from July 7 to August 18 at Niagara Falls High School. Boating

n AMERICA’S BOATING COURSE: The 9th District (ER) Flotilla 33 Buffalo is offering its next safe boating class for 2008, America’s Boating Course. The course will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church at 1395 George Urban Blvd., Cheektowaga. The course fee is $40 per person including book, or $20 per person sharing a book. This course will introduce the boater to such lessons as boat handling, navigation rules and the latest equipment requirements in state and federal waters. Tips on boat selection, trailering and boating laws will also be offered. America’s Boating Course meets New York State education requirements for jet-ski operation and qualifies youth, ages 10 to 18, to legally operate a conventional vessel alone on New York State waters. Upon completion of the course and an examination, a certificate and card will be issued to the student on the same day of the class, enabling them to legally operate a vessel immediately. Anyone who successfully completes this course may also be eligible to receive a discount on their boat insurance. Camp

n NIAGARA FALLS BOYS & GIRLS CLUB SUMMER DAY CAMP: The Niagara Falls Boys & Girls Club will once again be sponsoring summer day camp for boys and girls ages 4 to 14. All camps begin June 30 and last for seven weeks through August 15. Registration at the Niagara Falls Boys & Girls Club is required prior to camp. A $10 registration fee per child is required in addition to camp fee. Camp offerings include Camp Together, which is for boys and girls ages 4 to 8. It is from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. during the seven week span at Hyde Park. A weekly fee is charged. Camp at the Fort is for boys and girls ages 9 to 14. It will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. during the seven week span at Fort Niagara State Park. A weekly fee is charged. Bus is provided from the Club to the Fort and back daily. In cooperation with Earth Spirits, Inc. and the Niagara County Youth Bureau, a Wilderness Challenge Program is offered at Camp at the Fort. This program teaches outdoor education, survival and ecology programs. Canoe, hiking, and overnight adventures are included. Camp at the Club is for boys and girls ages 5 to 12, held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. during the seven week span at the Club site, 725, 17th Street. Camp fee is charged. Football

n KAT RAIDERS FOOTBALL AND CHEERLEADING: The KAT Raiders will be holding football and cheerleading tryouts. The age groups for football are Pee Wee (ages 7 and under, maximum 90 lbs.), Freshman (ages 8 and 9, max. 110 lbs.), J.V. (ages 10 and 11, max. 130 lbs.) and Varsity (ages 12 and 13, max. 155 lbs.). The age cut-off date is August 1. Registration will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today and Monday, and all Mondays in the month of June at the KAT trailer, located on Parker Avenue, behind the Lincoln Hockey Arena in the Town of Tonawanda. Practice starts from 6 to 8 p.m. on July 28. Football divisions are limited to the first 35 paid registrants. Cheerleading divisions are limited to the first 20 paid registrants. Each football player or cheerleader will receive 125 $1.00 raffle tickets for a chance to win prizes at the KAT Banquet at the end of the season. Selling all tickets means playing for free. n NIAGARA OPEN GOLF TOURNAMENT: The Opportunities Unlimited of Niagara Foundation’s 24th Annual Niagara Open Golf Tournament to benefit people with developmental disabilities is scheduled for a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start June 9 at the Niagara Frontier Country Club, 1058 Lake Rd. in Youngstown. It is a four-person scramble sponsored by Upstate Pharmacy, Ltd. The late former New York State Senator John B. Daly started the tournament in 1984, and nearly $500,000 has been raised since then. Buffalo Sabres defenseman Nathan Paetsch is the honorary chairman of this year’s event, with WGR sports talk show host Dennis Williams serving as the master of ceremonies. There will be a hole-in-one contest sponsored by Joe Cecconi’s Chrysler Complex, during which participants will have the chance to win a new Chrysler vehicle. The entry fee is $175 per golfer, which includes greens fees for 18 holes of golf, a cart, lunch, beverages, a one-hour cocktail reception, dinner, giveaways, raffles and contests. n NIAGARA PAL: The Niagara PAL Soccer Club has openings on its 14-and-under and 19-and-under boys competitive soccer teams. Teams compete in the Buffalo and Western New York Junior Soccer League. n YOUTH SOCCER: The American Youth Soccer Organization for the Roy-Hart/Medina area is holding registration dates for the upcoming summer season. The season will begin the last week of June and run until mid-August. Teams for ages 4 to 15 are being formed. Registration fees are $40 per player for those under 5 years old and $45 per player for all other ages. There is a family rate of $100 for three or more players. Proof of birth for any first-time registrants is required. This fee includes a full uniform. Shinguards may also be available for purchase. Sign-ups will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. May 20 at both Medina and Roy-Hart (budget votes). Volunteers are needed for coaching, team helpers and referees. High school students can earn volunteer hours by helping out.
