The junior southpaw was honored as a pitcher. Outfielders Nick Kellner and Marv Pawlowski, both first team all-Gazette picks, were also named to the all-NFL first team.

    John Edwards shot a 3-under par 67 on Monday at Niagara Falls Country Club to lead eight qualifiers for next month’s 51st Porter Cup.

  • BASKETBALL: Harris to join Flynn on T-Wolves summer squad
    Paul Harris said Monday that he will accept an offer to play for the Minnesota Timberwolves in the upcoming NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, where Jonny Flynn will also make his professional debut after Minnesota made him the sixth overall pick in last week’s NBA draft.

    Wilson told The Associated Press on Sunday he’d prefer waiting “two or three years” to determine whether the northern experiment is a success before he’d consider reworking the contract reached last year with Toronto-based Rogers Communications. The Bills are locked into playing five regular-season — one a year — and three preseason games in Toronto under the agreement which runs through 2012.

    It may have been “Six Months Until Christmas” night at Sal Maglie Stadium on Friday, but the Niagara Power weren’t the recipients of an early holiday gift, dropping a 3-2 decision to the Hornell Dodgers in New York Collegiate Baseball League play.

  • SABRES: Rugged winger Kassian drafted No. 13
    Listed at 6-foot-3 and 210 pounds, Zack Kassian had 24 goals and 39 assists in 61 games for Peterborough of the Ontario Hockey League last season. His 63 points ranked second on the team. He also finished among the top 20 in the league with 136 penalty minutes.

  • BASKETBALL: Harris keeps his head in the game
    Paul Harris returned to the Niagara Falls High School Wolverena to workout Friday, determined to pursue an NBA career despite going undrafted the night before. Harris said the Cleveland Cavaliers, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Chicago Bulls have extended summer league invitations so far.
