LOCKPORT

Man charged in burglaries

A Lockport man tied to three residential burglaries was charged with several felonies related to the burglaries on Tuesday afternoon, the Niagara County Sheriff's Office said. 

Brett M. Holt, 24, was charged with two counts of second-degree burglary, one count of third-degree grand larceny, one count of fourth-degree grand larceny and two counts of fourth-degree criminal mischief. Additional charges are pending. 

Holt was arraigned in the Town of Lockport in front of Judge Cheryl A. Antkowiak. He was remanded to the Niagara County Jail in lieu of $40,000 cash bail or $80,000 bond. Holt is due back in Lockport Town Court on Thursday.

• THEFT: Officers are looking into a shoplifting incident at a store in the 1500 block of Military Road. A store manager told police he had video surveillance footage of the incident that occurred at 3:50 p.m. Friday. The videotape shows a male and female suspect enter a jewelry aisle and the male suspect removes anti-theft devices from multiple racks of sterling silver jewelry. The female suspect then follows behind the male and places the jewelry in a large purse. The video shows the suspects doing this three times before they finally leave the store. The store manager said the value of the stolen jewelry was almost $1,500.

• BURGLARY: Police are investigating a burglary in the 2200 block of Falls Street. A property owner told officers that sometime between mid-May at 3 p.m. Monday someone broke into a building he uses as a storage garage by prying open a rear door. The victim said a wrench set, a charger and battery set, a three-ton jack stand, an aluminum jack stand, an air compressor and a racing jack were taken.

• THEFT: Officers are looking into a truck break-in in the 1000 block of Niagara Avenue. A 45-year-old man told police that sometime between 1 and 1:15 p.m. Monday, someone broke into his 2001 Chevy Silverado by ripping the back door window off the frame. The victim said two shotguns were taken from the truck.

• SHOOTING: Police are investigating a shooting incident in the 600 block alley off Eighth Street. A witness told officers that around 2:31 a.m. they heard four shots coming from the alley. Other witnesses confirmed that report, but police could find no evidence of the shooting.

• THEFT: Officers are looking into a van break-in in the 1500 block of Military Road. A 31-year-old man told police that sometime between 9:45 a.m. and noon Monday someone stole $600 that was in an envelope hidden inside his unlocked 2002 Dodge van.
