Man charged after incident at bar

A Wilson man was arrested by Niagara County Sheriff's deputies after a black Wilson resident reported that he was threatened by a crowd of men using racial slurs while at a Young Street bar Tuesday night.

The 32-year-old victim told deputies he was at the bar and went into the bathroom, at which point he said a 22-year-old East Lake Road man and four or five other men followed him in. The victim said the East Lake Road man told him, "(Racial slur) are not allowed in this town, take your crack and get the (expletive) out of here or I'm going to (expletive) you up."

The victim said he went to the bar, finished his drink, left and called police.

When a deputy arrived at the the bar, he said the bartender told him she did not know the details but heard that a black guy was trying to sell some of the patrons crack/cocaine and an incident followed but was not sure who was involved.

Deputies found a man who fit the description of the East Lake Road man and he said he did in fact have a confrontation with a black guy in the bathroom due to him trying to sell crack/cocaine to people at the bar. He said he never used a racial slur but the deputy said he was intoxicated and later used a racial slur to describe the victim.

The deputy said the East Lake Road man began to get belligerent and yell obscenities on the sidewalk after being advised numerous times to stop. He was eventually arrested for second-degree harassment.

• THEFT: A property owner on the 1700 block of LaSalle Avenue told police that sometime between Oct. 23 and Saturday someone took a hot water tank and furnace from the home. The owner said she noticed the theft while she was showing the property to a potential renter. Police contacted the prior tenant who said the items were there when he moved out on Monday. The estimated loss is $140.

• CHARGED: Richard Handley II, 26, 412 20th St., Apt. 1, was charged with petit larceny about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to Falls police. He was charged after employees at a supermarket on the 1000 block of Portage Road told police he concealed several items worth $15.46 in his coat and tried to leave the store.
