• MISSING CERTIFICATES: A representative of West Herr Honda, South Transit Road, reported to the sheriff’s office on Thursday that 21 New York State inspection safety certificates for the year 2014 are missing from the shop. The certificates are numbered 1039340 through 10394360, according to the sheriff’s report; the serial numbers were entered into eJustice, through which police agencies statewide share information about stolen property and other police matters.

• LARCENY: Tyler M. Schmidt, 18, 79 Treehaven Road, West Seneca, was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny Wednesday after a sheriff’s investigation of thefts from the Shawnee Country Barn Antique Co-Op. A Newfane resident who sells wares at the co-op reported the theft of 37 sterling silver rings, several silver spoons and antiques, valued together at $1,200, on March 15. The vendor said she had an eerie feeling about a young, male browser in the shop that day and obtained the license plate number on his vehicle when he left. The vendor discovered items were missing shortly afterward and called police. Schmidt admitted to taking “a bunch” of silver rings and selling them for $200 at a Cheektowaga flea market, the sheriff’s report said.

• STRANGE FIND: The sheriff’s office took a report Monday from a resident who said he found two shotguns cut into pieces and wrapped in a pair of navy blue sweat pants, laying roadside in the 3600 block of Braley Road. The bundle had been laying on the north side of the road for several weeks, the resident said, adding he didn’t know what was in it until he picked the pants up off the ground Monday. A deputy identified the guns as a High Standard and a Mohawk 48, according to the incident report; a check of the serial numbers showed neither had been reported stolen.
