BLOTTER: Police reports published Aug. 11

Niagara Falls

• THEFT: Police are investigating a reported theft between 10:30 p.m. Friday and 10:30 a.m. Saturday from a residence in the 800 block of 17th Street. The victim, a 33-year-old man, told police someone entered his fenced in yard and stole an all-terrain vehicle he had just purchased. He said the vehicle is white with a blue seat and worth $800.

• ARREST: A Canadian man was arrested after attempting to enter the United States at a local border crossing at 11:40 p.m. Friday. Terminder Chahal, 44, 75 Losino St., Caldeon, Ont., was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance after border patrol agents told police he was found to be in possession of hydrocodone. Chahal told police he was taking the pills he received from a relative in Ohio for a back problem and was trying to return the pills when he was stopped. He was reportedly taken into custody without incident.

• ARREST: A Falls man was taken into custody following a report of larceny in progress between 12:54 and 1:30 p.m. Friday in the 2400 block of Seneca Avenue. William O’Neill, 61, 2639 Niagara Ave., was charged with petit larceny and fourth-degree criminal mischief after police were informed he was taking copper wire from a property in the 2400 block of Niagara Avenue. The owner, a 48-year-old man, told police he arrived at the property and found O’Neill sitting on the ground, pliers in hand, removing copper from below the meter head on the building. Police report O’Neill was taken into custody without incident.

• HARASSMENT: A Shenk Road woman reported a road-rage incident at 3 p.m. Friday which resulted in the driver of one of the vehicles running into the vehicle of the complainant. There were no injuries. According to the report, the complainant stated that she was driving home when she passed another vehicle on Mapleton Road. The Amherst  woman used vulgar statements toward the Shenk Road woman before driving away. 

• BURGLARY: A Saunders Settlement Road man reported an unknown person took $800, a gold 1976 Canadian Olympic coin and 85 hydrocodone pills and out of his safe in his basement sometime between Aug. 1 and Aug. 9. The coin was valued at $800. The safe had not been closed properly the last time it was open, the man said.

    Police are investigating a theft from a convenience store in the 2600 block of Niagara Street. A clerk told officers that four suspects, two males and two females, entered the store at 5:32 a.m. Wednesday and one of the women brought several items to the counter and paid for them with a New York state benefit card.

    A Ransomville man with alcohol-related convictions was charged with felony driving while intoxicated Sunday night, the Niagara County Sheriff's Office said.

    Police are investigating a burglary in the 2500 block of 29th Street. An agent with the CSX Railroad Security Department told officers that sometime between April 4 and noon Monday, someone forced open the door to a storage shed on his company’s property.
