BLOTTER: Police reports published Sept. 16


Shoplifting suspects chased out of his clothes

A man suspected with shoplifting jewelry at the Bonton left with less than he came with at 4:30 p.m. Friday.

Niagara County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a theft report at the South Transit Road store where employees said a man in his 20s walked out the door with several necklaces and two rings.

The suspect was confronted by a loss prevention employee in the parking lot and handed over the necklace. As the employee attempted to take the man into custody, he shoved the employee and began to run away. The employed caught up with the man and the two struggled. The suspect pulled out of his jacket and two t-shirts and ran through the parking lot towards South Transit shirtless; only wearing lime green shorts. The suspect was also bleeding from a wound on his face.

Deputies secured the clothing left behind which included a white t-shirt with blood on the collar, a black t-shirt with a small amount of blood on it and a black jacket with blood on the collar. The items of clothing were will be submitted to the Niagara County Sheriff’s office for DNA testing.

• BURGLARY: Police are investigating a burglary in the 2200 block of Pierce Avenue. A 53-year-old woman told officers that sometime between noon and 4 p.m. Sunday someone broke into her home by taking an air conditioning unit out of a window. The victim said a laptop computer and some costume jewelry was taken.

• THEFT: Officers are looking into an SUV break-in in the 400 block of 19th Street. A 30-year-old man told police that sometime between 3 a.m. and 2 p.m. Sunday someone broke into his 2002 GMC Envoy by smashing the front driver's-side window. The victim said two speakers, an amplifier, a pair of sunglasses and his wallet was taken.
