Company says no harmful gas released Tuesday

Officials at Tier Holdings on S. Hyde Park Boulevard say water vapor/steam was released during Tuesday morning’s incident involving a rail car at their facility.
Company officials say the Niagara Falls Fire Department responded to a call from an outside source, found no evidence of a hazardous release, or harmful discharge. They added that there were no injuries associated with the generation of this steam (water vapor) cloud.
At no time was the safety of the community, our industrial neighbors, or our employees put at risk.
Falls firefighters reported that a chemical being used to clean a tank car reacted with a chemical inside the tank car causing a plume of gas. Fire officials said the gas was dissipated in 20 minutes. They also reported 10 people, some from a nearby business, said they were going to local hospitals on their own to be checked out.
