Deputies called in to recover wood chipper

The owner of a Lockport equipment rental business called Niagara County Sheriff's deputies on Saturday to report a customer who was refusing to return a $15,000 wood chipper.

The wood chipper had been rented to a North Tonawanda man for four hours on Jan. 30 and has still not been returned. The employee said numerous attempts to get the chipper back have failed. He said the man owes $2,100.

Deputies attempted to contact the man on Saturday but were unable to. An investigation is continuing.


Niagara Falls

• THEFT: Officers are looking into a theft from the 1800 block of Weston Avenue. A 54-year-old Florida woman told police she shipped a Valentine's Day present to he granddaughter and information from the shipper indicated it was delivered at 5:30 p.m. Thursday. On Sunday, the child's mother reported the package was never received.

• THEFT: Police are investigating a theft in the 400 block of 19th Street. A 51-year-old man told officers that sometime between 6 p.m. Saturday and 11:30 a.m Sunday someone stole a snow blower that he had chained to his porch, The victim said the chain had been cut.

• THEFT: Officers are looking into a theft from the 400 block of 19th Street. A 50-year-old man told police that sometime between 6 and 10 p.m. Saturday an acquaintance who was visiting him took a cordless drill.


• DWI: Jasmine C. Mitchell, 21, 30B Fox Berry Drive, Getzville, was charged with DWI about 3:45 a.m. Sunday, according to Niagara County Sheriff's deputies. Mitchell was charged after her car was found in a ditch on Old Beattie Road, just south of Rapids Road. She told deputies she was driving south and lost control of her vehicle and drove into the ditch. Mitchell appeared intoxicated and failed field sobriety tests. She refused to take a breath test.
