Man caught with $1,300 in perfume

A Niagara County Sheriff’s deputy picked up a man carrying $1,320 in perfume and cologne taken from a Williams Road store Friday morning.

Staff at the store called police after noticing the man carrying several bottles of cologne and acting suspiciously. Employees were unable to keep the man in the store but a responding deputy found him near a gas station a short distance away.

The deputy said as he approached the man, he could see he had several items in his coat pocket, his pants pockets and his hoodie. The man was identified as Hassan K. Ford, 47, 6824 Plaza Drive, Niagara Falls, and he admitted taking the items.

He told the deputy he sells the perfume and cologne on the street for $5 a bottle to support his drug habit. The deputy said he had four bottles of Usher, four Rocawear, two Rihanna, three Coolwater, two Beyonce, two Ecko, three Nautica, one Burberry, two RRBL, one MJB, two CKONE, one SJ, two PACO, one Hugo Boss and two Paris Hilton at the time he was stopped.

Ford was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny.

• INCIDENT: State Park Police are looking for the body of a man who was apparently swept over the falls on Saturday night. Witnesses said they saw the man walk out on some ice and into the rapids. The man then disappeared. Park Police say they’ve recovered some of the man’s personal belongings.

• BURGLARY: Officers are looking into a burglary that happened between 11:20 a.m. and 7:50 p.m. Friday in the 400 block of 21st Street. The victim, a 65-year-old woman, said she returned home and noticed her lights were on inside her home. Thinking it was her grandchildren, she entered the house and noticed her TV missing from her living room. Investigating further, she found a laptop to be missing from a spare bedroom and about $5,000 in jewelry gone from her bedroom. Investigators found several blood stains in the house and a broken window believed to be where entry was made. There were several sets of footprints in the snow. Total property value was listed at $7,650.

• THEFT: Police are investigating a reported theft from a vehicle which occurred between 11 p.m. Thursday and 11 a.m. Friday in the valet lot of a hotel in the 300 block of Sixth Street. The victim, a 28-year-old Buffalo woman, said a pair of designer prescription sunglasses and a cell phone were missing from her rental vehicle when it was returned to her. The valet driver said he unlocked the vehicle with the keys and nothing appeared out of the ordinary when he returned it to the victim.


• CHARGED: Louis S. Rizzo, 52, 434 Fifth St., Niagara Falls, was charged with DWI and two traffic offenses about 2 a.m. Friday, according to the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office. A deputy on patrol said he saw Rizzo swerving in and out of his lane on Niagara Falls Boulevard. When stopped, Rizzo appeared intoxicated and failed field sobriety tests. Rizzo’s blood alcohol content was measured at 0.14 percent at the sheriff’s department.
