FIRE CALLS: Niagara Falls fire reports published Oct. 19

For the period of Sept. 30 to Oct. 13, the Niagara Falls Fire Department responded to 259 calls. The total number of service calls for 2013 to date is 5,202.

• ACCIDENT: On Oct. 2, Engine 8’s crew, consisting of Capt. Brent Curcio and firefighters Jeremy Davidson, Dwon Daniels and Joseph Bongiovanni, responded, at 7:42 a.m., to a vehicle accident in the 3000 block of Pine Avenue. They encountered two patients who were complaining of chest pains after the air bags deployed. After applying spinal immobilization procedures to the victims, they were transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.

• FIRE: On Oct. 6, unattended cooking was the cause of a fire, at 4:55 p.m., in the 3000 block of Welch Avenue. Platoon 1 responded and quickly put out the fire. Damage to the building and contents was set at $400.

• FIRE: On Oct. 9, a fire, at 1:39 p.m., in a vacant, unsecured house in the 1700 block of 13th Street, sent a full assignment from Platoon 2 to the scene. Firefighters remained on the scene for approximately two hours, working to put out the blaze. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. There was also exposure fire damage to the house next door and total damage was estimated at $10,000.

• FIRES: On Oct. 12, two fires in the 700 block of Cedar Avenue, across the street from each other, were reported almost simultaneously. A total of 40 firefighters, both on duty and off duty, were called to handle the blazes. Both fires appeared to be intentionally set and remain under investigation. One of the houses needed emergency demolition and the other had substantial damage.

• FIRE: On Oct. 13, Platoon 3 was sent, at 3:17 a.m., to another vacant house that was on fire in the 1600 block of Niagara Avenue. Heavy fire also damaged the siding on the occupied house next door. Investigators are following up numerous leads in what appears to be a case of arson.
