LOCKPORT

Passenger in DWI crash sent to ECMC

A Medina man was arrested for driving while intoxicated after an accident early Thursday morning left a passenger pinned in the truck he was driving, the Niagara County Sheriff's Office said. 

Levi K. Dieterle, 21, 5761 Burns Road, Medina, was also charged with failure to stop at a stop sign and failure to use the designated lane after crashing his truck into a tree on Lincoln Avenue around 1 a.m., the Niagara County Sheriff's Office said. When Sheriff's Deputies arrived on the scene, Dieterle was sitting outside of the vehicle, and a passenger in the vehicle, Christopher W. Blake, 21, Alba, was trapped inside the vehicle.

Blake had to be extricated from the vehicle, and was transported to the Erie County Medical Center by Mercy Flight with serious injuries. He is listed in critical condition. 

The accident is still under investigation, the Sheriff's Office said, and additional charges are possible.

KENDALL

Man falls from hydraulic boom

A Canandaigua man was listed in guarded condition Thursday afternoon after falling from the operator’s platform on a hydraulic boom truck Wednesday morning.

According to a report from the Orleans County Sheriff's Department, the incident occurred shortly before 10:30 a.m., in the 900 block of West Kendall Road in the Town of Kendall. The 62-year-old man had climbed up to the platform and was preparing to sit down in the boom operator’s chair when he lost his footing and fell to the ground, a distance of between seven and feet.

He was transported by Kendall FD ambulance to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. He is employed by J.F. Electric Inc., of Edwardsville, Ill. The company leased the truck from Global Rental Co., in Indianapolis, Ind.

• THEFT: Officers are looking into a car break-in in the 1100 block of 98th Street. A 50-year-old woman told police that sometime between 7:30 and 9:30 p.m. Wednesday someone broke into her apparently unlocked 2014 Ford Fusion. The victim said an iPad in a blue computer bag, a Harley-Davidson sweatshirt and scarf and a jacket were taken.
