Hikers rescued from gorge

About 5:15 p.m. Saturday, the Niagara Parks Police Service was advised by Niagara Parks Commission staff that there were a number of hikers, including three adults, two children and a dog, who encountered difficulties in the Niagara Gorge below Thompson’s Point.
The hikers had been ascending the Niagara Gorge off the marked trails below Thompson’s Point when they ran into difficulty to the point where they could neither descend nor ascend any further and called staff at the Niagara Spanish Aerocar for assistance.
Members of the Niagara Parks Police Service High Angle River Team and the Niagara Falls Fire Department using a fixed rope pathway, were able to guide the hikers to the lower gorge trails to safety.
The hikers were later met by Niagara Emergency Medical Services personnel as a precaution, though there were no injuries reported as a result of this incident.
