LOCKPORT

Man charged with DWI after one-car crash

A Lockport man was charged with DWI at Erie County Medical Center following a one-car crash about 4:30 p.m. Sunday on Robinson Road.

Arriving deputies found that a car driven by Michael A. Neuland, 20, 5660 Saunders Settlement Road, Lockport, had collided with a utility pole with traveling west on Robinson Road. Neuland was found unconscious in the driver's seat and had to be extricated due to damage to the car.

A passenger told deputies Neuland was driving at a high rate of speed down Robinson and pulling the car's emergency brake, causing the vehicle to swerve and lost control, sliding across a grassy area and into the utility pole in the driver's side.

Taken to ECMC by ambulance, Neuland was interviewed by deputies there who said he appeared intoxicated, performed a pair of field sobriety tests and charged him. He refused to take a chemical test.

Neuland was charged with DWI, moving from a lane unsafely, reckless driving and unreasonable speed.
