Police called to Memorial ER for violent man

Falls police were called to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center about 5 p.m. Monday after a patient there went on a rampage in the ER.

Hospital staff said the man had threatened to harm residents and staff at a North Tonawanda residential home. Once at Memorial, the man said he was going to “act out” and began throwing chairs, a table and hospital equipment, including a blood pressure machine. Police said he threw a chair at someone in the ER, narrowly missing them. The man also damaged the drywall of the ER.

Hospital security was able to get control of the man before police arrived and had him secured in a bed and medicated. Staff were planning to admit the man to the hospital's psych unit.

No charges were filed.
