Man robbed at gunpoint

Falls police are investigating an armed robbery on the 1300 block of Pierce Avenue.

A 23-year-old city man told officers he was walking in the parking lot of the Niagara Falls Public Library about 3 a.m. Friday when he was approached from behind by a man dressed in black clothing.

The man displayed what appeared to be a .22-caliber handgun and pulled the victim's gold chain and charm from his neck. The suspect then demanded everything in his pockets. The victim turned over $400 in cash. The suspect then walked off.

The suspect is described as a black man, about 30 years old, 5-foot-6 and 180 pounds with a goatee.


Bike, beer stolen from man

A 53-year-old Falls man said two men took his bicycle and an 18-pack of beer from him after hey sprayed him with pepper spray shortly after midnight Friday.

The man said he was riding his motorized bicycle home from a convenience store on the 1500 block of Pine Avenue where he had purchased the beer when the saddle bag on the bike began to come loose due to the weight of the 18-pack of Budweiser beer.

When he stopped to fix the bag, two men approached him, one of whom asked him if he needed a hand. When the man looked up, he was sprayed with pepper spray. The two men then took his bike and the beer.

The estimated loss is $3,018.


Niagara Falls

• THEFT: A 45-year-old Falls man told police that sometime between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Thursday someone took a 37-inch flatscreen TV and a computer laptop from his locked room at the YMCA on Portage Road. The estimated loss is $1,200.

• THEFT: Police were called to Jordan Gardens on Thursday where a resident told them someone took a washing machine and dryer while he was in custody at the Erie County Jail. He was incarcerated from Oct. 15 until Wednesday. The victim said a family member could possibly be responsible for the theft.
