State police warn of 'phishing' scam

The New York State Police are warning citizens of a possible "phishing" scam in Western New York. Residents have received calls from a company that warns of computer viruses and the caller asks for remote access to computers to fix the "problem."

"Phishing" is an attempt to access personal or financial information, through electronic communication, while posing as a legitimate or trustworthy entity.

Citizens are reminded to never give personal information during unsolicited telephone, text or online communications.

• THEFT: Police are investigating a reported theft that occurred between 10 and 10:55 a.m. Saturday from a store in the 1800 block of Pine Avenue. The store manager told police an unknown man entered the store, concealed 10 bars of soap in his clothing and left without paying. She said it was the second time the man, described as a black male, possibly in his 30s with a thin or medium build and short hair, wearing a light blue t-shirt, had stolen merchandise from the store. The value of the soap was estimated at $30.

• ARREST: A Falls man was arrested following a report of an intoxicated man at 5 a.m. Saturday in the 2900 block of 22nd Street. Antoine Mallory, 37, 2952 22nd St., was charged with disorderly conduct after police say he would not quiet down after repeated attempts to silence and disperse him from the scene after a caller reported he was not wanted at the residence. He reportedly began using obscene language, yelling about the caller outside while police were on scene. He was taken into custody but was reportedly uncooperative with officers.

• ARREST: A Falls man was arrested following a reported neighborhood fight at 1:10 a.m. Saturday in the 400 block of 24th Street. Charles Clothier Sr., 27, was charged with disorderly conduct after police say three neighbors were fighting outdoors. The fight, officers report, involved racial overtones and led to the arrest.
