Authorities say federal agents and Buffalo police have conducted a dozen raids in a crackdown targeting drug trafficking and violent crime on the city’s east side.
The agent in charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Buffalo office says the raids were carried out early Tuesday morning in a 10-block area where 10 homicides occurred last year. The city’s police commissioner said that his department teamed up with the DEA to “clean it up.”
A police helicopter and SWAT teams from the FBI and police departments from suburban towns also were involved in the raids.
• ARREST: A Falls woman was arrested after a domestic incident in the 400 block of Third Street at 11:45 a.m. Monday. Maureen Anne Gonzalez, 43, 186 69th St., was charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief.
• THEFT: Officers are looking into a car break-in in the 8000 block of Niagara Falls Boulevard. A 70-year-old woman told police that sometime between 2 and 3 p.m. Monday someone broke into her 2006 Toyota Camry by smashing a passenger-side window. The victim said her lunch box was taken.
• BURGLARY: Police are investigating a burglary in the 400 block of 16th Street. A 32-year-old woman told officers that sometime between 1 and 2:15 p.m. Monday someone broke into her home through an open door. The victim said a rented TV and stand were taken.
• THEFT: Officers are looking into a van break-in in the 300 block of Sixth Street. A 59-year-old man told police that sometime between 3 and 5:45 p.m. Monday someone broke into his 2005 Chevy Express van by breaking the lock on a side door. The victim said two drain cleaning machines, a sewer cleaning machine, gour hand drills and other tools were taken.
