NIAGARA FALLS

Deputy's gear stolen from truck

A Niagara County Sheriff's deputy reported Thursday that someone broke into his truck while it was parked in a fitness center parking lot on Niagara Falls Boulevard about 4 p.m. and made off with his patrol bag and backpack.

The deputy said he was inside the gym for about an hour and when he left a rear passenger-side window was broken and his two work bags were gone.

Inside the patrol bag was a 20-round magazine filled with ammunition, an LED flashlight, a winter hat, tactical leather winter gloves and multiple sheriff's office documents including appearance tickets, deer tags and mental health evaluations.

The backpack contained two magazines loaded with ammunition and a trauma kit.

Members of the Niagara Falls Police Crime Scene Unit investigated the scene.
