FIRE CALLS: Niagara Falls fire reports published April 6

For the period of March 25 to 31, the Niagara Falls Fire Department responded to 110 calls. The total number of service calls to date in 2013 is 1,473.

 
• FIRST AID: On March 26, Engine 3 responded, at 1:33 a.m., to the 2300 block of Hyde Park Boulevard to provide first aid to a man who was shot. Firefighter Eric Abel rode with the ambulance to the Erie County Medical Center to assist in treatment of what turned out to be non-life-threatening wounds.

 
• FIRE: On March 26, Platoon 4 was dispatched, at 10:13 p.m., to a fully involved garage fire behind a vacant house in the 4300 block of Crescent Avenue. The cause of the fire is still under investigation and damage is listed at $15,000.

 
• FIRE: On March 27, a structure fire, at 9:31 p.m., sent a full assignment from Platoon 4 to the 2200 block of Cleveland Avenue. Unattended cooking started the fire and damage was pegged at $35,000.

 
• FIRE: On March 28, two dumpsters were ignited, at 3:40 a.m., outside a business in the 2200 block of Pine Avenue. No witnesses came forward to give a statement about this intentionally set fire. Occasionally, security cameras can catch the culprits, but none were present at this incident. Damage was $1,000.

 
• FIRE: On March 30, Engine 4 and Truck 1 went to the 200 block of Portage Road, at 1:46 a.m., for a call of a car fire. Firefighters found a 1995 BMW, with its passenger compartment completely involved in fire. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Damage was listed at $3,000.

 
• FIRST AID: On March 30, at 7:24 a.m., Engine 7’s crew, consisting of Capt. David Kudela and firefighters Chuck DelGobbo and Scott Furman, provided first aid measures to a woman who jumped from a moving vehicle on the Robert Moses Parkway. The victim sustained a head contusion and “road rash” and after being stabilized by the crew she was transported by ambulance to the Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo for further evaluation.
