ONTARIO

Man helped from gorge

A 70-year-old Niagara Falls, Ont., man was helped from the gorge by members of the Niagara Parks Police Service High Angle River Team Sunday afternoon after fracturing his ankle while hiking.

The man was stabilized and lifted out of the gorge shortly after 2 p.m. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

 

HARTLAND 

Youth injured in fall from tractor

A youth was transported to Children's Hospital via Mercy Flight Saturday with a head injury after falling from a trailer being pulled by a tractor.

The youth's father was driving the tractor in the area of Seaman and Drum roads about 11:15 a.m. when his son fell out. The fall left a laceration on the youth's head. The father told Niagara County Sheriff's deputies he was unsure what he had struck after falling from the trailer.

 

NIAGARA COUNTY

Homeowners hit gas lines in separate incidents

Niagara County Sheriff's officials reported two incidents of leaking gas lines this weekend.

About 9:40 a.m Sunday, a man working at his Tonawanda Creek Road home in Lockport hit a gas line while excavating to put in a drainage line. NYSEG officials and Rapids Volunteer Fire Co. members responded to assist.

About 2 p.m. on Saturday, deputies were called to Woodland Court after a man hit a gas supply line while digging next to the foundation of his home.

A few homes on either side of the house were evacuated as a safety precaution. National Fuel officials and Adam's Fire Co. personnel responded to assist.

Antique rifles, pistols taken in burglary

Niagara County Sheriff's deputies were called Saturday to a Youngstown-Lockport Road address, unoccupied since February for a reported burglary.

Deputies were contacted by the granddaughter of the former resident, who recently died.

A clerk told officers that four suspects, two males and two females, entered the store at 5:32 a.m. Wednesday and one of the women brought several items to the counter and paid for them with a New York state benefit card.

    Police are investigating a burglary in the 2500 block of 29th Street. An agent with the CSX Railroad Security Department told officers that sometime between April 4 and noon Monday, someone forced open the door to a storage shed on his company’s property.
