BLOTTER: Police reports published Sept. 4

Suspected Molotov cocktail extinguished

A small fire, believed to have resulted from some sort of a Molotov cocktail, was put out in Cambria early Tuesday morning.

A Niagara County Sheriff's deputy said a small liquor bottle was found atop a stack of newspapers, with a twisted metal mesh used as a wick. The setup was found in the roadway on Saunders Settlement and Diller roads at about 3:30 a.m.

The deputy doused the fire with a patrol car fire extinguisher. The item did not explode and the road was cleared. Several patrol units responded to the scene, deputies said.
