City man caught with stolen Playstation 3s

A Lockport man is facing charges connected to a break-in on Crestwood Court West and a shoplifting incident at Walmart on South Transit Road, both Saturday night.

Allen J. Tomaino, 26, of Lincoln Avenue, was charged with second-degree burglary, third-degree criminal mischief and harassment after Niagara County Sheriff's deputies arrested him on Crestwood Court West. He was then given a Friday town court appearance ticket for fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property for reportedly taking three Playstation 3 games from Walmart.

Deputies investigating the break-in reported finding several game systems, still in sealed boxes, on the back seat of a vehicle at 8:45 p.m. Saturday at Crestwood Court West. Deputies said they found damaged security devices on the ground.

Tomaino attempted to run from the scene, but was caught. A couple had called the sheriff’s office when they found a door forced open and the house ransacked. Tomaino, who was put into handcuffs by police, threatened to kill the couple, according to a sheriff's arrest report.

Nothing was missing from the ransacked house. A neighbor told deputies she saw Tomaino putting the boxes into the vehicle.

While in custody, Tomaino reportedly said he had taken the games from Walmart. He was driven there by a friend.

Tomaino's friend, Anthony F. Cross, 24, 6301 Robinson Road, Apt. 1, was also charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property in the Walmart theft. Cross was given a court appearance ticket for Friday in Lockport Town Court.

Man charged after trooper hurt in Thruway crash

State police say a trooper is hospitalized after his patrol car was hit on the Thruway outside Buffalo by vehicle driven by a man who was high on drugs.

Officials say Trooper Leonard Kasniak was helping with the shutdown of Interstate 90 because of the weather when his vehicle was hit around midnight Monday at Exit 55 in West Seneca.

Troopers say the other car was driven by a 22-year-old man from Orchard Park who was charged with vehicular assault and driving while ability impaired by drugs.

Kasniak was taken to Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo for treatment of unspecified injuries. Officials say he's expected to be in the hospital for a couple days.

Authorities say the blizzard-like conditions at the time of the crash appear to have been a contributing factor.
