Staff Reports

Niagara Falls

• SHOOTS FIRED: Several people reported hearing shots fired on the 2200 block of LaSalle Avenue early Monday morning. A neighbor said they looked out a window after hearing the shots and saw a man standing behind a tree with a rifle or shotgun. The man picked up a few things off the ground and ran to an awaiting car in the alley between LaSalle and Whitney Avenue. Police also spoke to a man who said he was working in a garage on the 2200 block of Woodlawn Avenue when he heard the shots and felt something brush past his leg. Police said the man’s pants appeared to have an entry and exit rip but the man’s leg was uninjured. Officers noted bullet holes were found in a garage and a one-way street sign on LaSalle.

• BURGLARY: A Clifton Street resident said she was taking garbage out about 11:45 p.m. Sunday when somebody ran by with a club or black bar. A short time later, the resident was back outside and noticed an air compressor and power washer in the street. The items had earlier been reported stolen from a Clifton Street garage.

• BURGLARY: A Falls Street resident told police that sometime Saturday night someone kicked in his apartment door and took several items, including a VCR, CDs, an angel table and an old painting that had been in the family for decades. After the buglary, the resident went to check with downstairs neighbors. They weren’t home but the resident said they looked in their window and saw the angel table and other stolen items. The matter is under investigation.

• BURGLARY: Police were called to the 600 block of Chasm Avenue for a reported break-in early Monday morning. A resident letting his dog out at 3 a.m. saw two suspicious men near a home and called police when they ran off. When police investigated they found a Plexiglas window shattered and a sliding glass door damaged. The homeowner said nothing appeared to have been taken. Damage was estimated at $1,600.

• THEFT: An Ontario man, who police noted was hearing impaired, reported Monday that sometime between Aug. 17 and 23 someone took five and a half boxes of $100 key chains and a half box of $2 donation cards from a house on Caravelle Drive where he was storing them. The owner of the home said a 62-year-old woman and her 40-year-old son were living at the home at the time.

• THEFT: A North Carolina man told police Monday someone took his ’01 Chrysler Seabring from the 1100 block of Niagara Street on Oct. 28. Officers noted the car was driven into a building on the 1300 block of 18th Street and the car suffered extensive damage.

• THEFT: Police reported a $150 computer monitor was taken from the Variable Frequency Drive room of the gorge pumping station at 920 Whirlpool St. sometime between Friday and Monday.

• THEFT: A Forest Avenue man told police someone smashed a window and took a GPS unit from his ’09 Kia Sorrento rental car while it was parked on the 400 block of Buffalo Avenue Sunday night.
