POLICE REPORTS: Nov. 8, 2009
Niagara Falls
• RAPE: At 1:30 a.m. Saturday, police responded to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center for a rape report. The victim said she was at the corner of Third and Niagara streets and saw a male sitting on a bench. The male appeared to be staring at her, so she walked over to see if she knew him. The victim said she didn’t know him, but they began to talk. As the victim started walking on Third toward Main Street, the man caught up to her and they began talking about God. The male then told the woman to take the old water treatment service road because it was a shortcut. As they were walking down that road, the suspect began saying things of a sexual nature to the victim. After raping her, the man took the woman’s cell phone and four gold rings. The victim then ran to her son’s house and was taken to the hospital. An investigation is continuing.
• DISORDERLY CONDUCT: Joseph F. Currie, 58, 414 26th St., Apt. 2, was charged at 11:15 p.m. Friday with disorderly conduct and exposure of a person. Officers saw Currie urinating on the sidewalk at Hyde Park Boulevard and Ely Avenue. Currie then fell backward on the street, forcing vehicles on Hyde Park to swerve to avoid hitting him. He was taken to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. Currie is due in court at 9 a.m. Tuesday.
• CRIMINAL MISCHIEF: Between 12:30 and 1:45 p.m. Saturday, someone attempted to pry open a vehicle lock while it was parked in the 6400 block of Niagara Falls Boulevard. The victim estimated damage was $500.
• BURGLARY: $200 cash and $120 in liquor were taken during a burglary at 4:45 a.m. Saturday in the 3100 block of Ninth Street. The suspect entered the residence through a rear window by ripping off the screen and breaking the lock.
• DWI: Joseph M. Collins, 69, 401 Dixie Road, Mississauga, Ontario, was charged with DWI at 10:32 p.m. Friday. Police were dispatched to the 300 block of Niagara Street because witnesses saw Collins back into a vehicle and attempt to drive away. Several people attempted to stop him and take away his keys. When police arrived, Collins was sitting in his vehicle with his keys in his hand. Officers detected the odor of alcoholic beverages while talking to Collins, who subsequently failed all field sobriety tests.
• DISORDERLY CONDUCT: Blasina Latrese Mathews, 31, 3461 Ninth St., was charged with disorderly conduct at 12:10 a.m. Saturday. Officers responded to a fight call in the 1700 block of Elmwood Avenue. Officers saw Mathews stop and get out of her vehicle. She then began to argue with people and was using vulgar language. Officers told her to stop yelling, to which Mathews responded by throwing her car keys in the middle of the street and refusing to pick them up. Mathews’ vehicle was obstructing pedestrian traffic, according to the report.
