Burning object on lake spotted
A Youngstown man reported seeing something burning in the waters of Lake Ontario on Saturday night but the Coast Guard and other agencies could not find anything in the water.
The man said he and some friends heard what sounded like fireworks going off about 9:17 p.m. He said they then saw what they described as a “ball of fire,” with flames about 15 feet high, about a quarter-mile off shore.
The unknown object burned for about 20 minutes, the report said.
Deputies responded to the scene and saw what appeared to be two small flames out in the water.
The U.S. Coast Guard and the Wilson and Olcott fire companies were notified.
After an extensive search by all agencies, patrols could not find anything in the water, the report said.
