Health care worker charged with burglary

A home health care aide has been accused of stealing money from the family of a man she was caring for.

Tonia M. Truscio, 35, 18 Evans St., was charged Monday with petit larceny and second-degree burglary.

A Walnut Street man reported Sunday that sometime between Thursday and Saturday, someone took about $100 from a red metal tin he keeps in the dining room of his upstairs apartment. He told police that he suspected the money was taken by one of two home health care aides who come to the house and take care of his grandfather, who lives downstairs.

The man gave police information on both aides — one of whom was Truscio, the report said.

Officers took fingerprints from the tin and other evidence.

Truscio later admitted to Det. Lt. John Yotter that she took about $85 in change from the tin.

She was held in lieu of $100 bail and is due today in Lockport City Court.

Falls police probe attempted murder

Niagara Regional Police are looking for a suspect in connection with an attack on a young woman in Niagara Falls, Ontario.

Police say they are looking for 21-year-old Quinton Symonds. He is wanted on an arrest warrant charging him with attempted murder and forcible confinement.

Investigators say Symonds was involved in an incident on Monday that left a young woman with serious, but nonlife threatening injuries. The victim had been involved in a physical altercation with Symonds.

Anyone who may know the whereabouts of Symonds is asked to contact Detective Mark DiEgidio at 905-688-4111 ext. 2264 or Detective Kevin Luciano at 905-688-4111 ext. 2213.

• THEFT: Police are investigating a car break-in in the 600 block of 17th Street. A 34-year-old man told officers that sometime between 9:30 p.m. Monday and 7:30 a.m. Tuesday someone broke into his 2000 Mitsubishi Diamante by smashing a driver’s-side window. The victim said a black Flying V guitar and a red Fender guitar were taken.

• THEFT: Officers are looking into a car break-in in a parking lot in the 300 block of Fourth Street. A 46-year-old woman told police that sometime between 6 and 11 p.m. Monday someone broke into her car by prying open a window. The victim said her purse was taken.

• ARRESTS: Two Falls teenagers were arrested in connection with a burglary at the Fallside Conference Center in the 400 block of Buffalo Avenue. Tyler James Leo, 18, 1025 90th St., and Michael Francis Boyd, 16, 77 Mason Drive, were each charged with third-degree burglary, third-degree criminal mischief and possession of burglary tools. Police said they spotted the pair running from the center at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday. After catching them in a nearby backyard, officers discovered a rear door to the center had been smashed out with a baseball bat and a liquor bottle and cash box were found at the rear of the building.

• DWI: Peter J. DiGiacomo, 22, 272 Green St., was charged Tuesday with driving while intoxicated, failure to keep right and third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. Deputies stopped DiGiacomo about 2:25 a.m. Monday after watching him drive erratically on South Transit Road. He told deputies he was driving that way because his passenger was getting him “wound up.” He said he’d had three beers at the Niagara Hotel and was headed to Tops on South Transit Road for food, the report said. DiGiacomo failed several field sobriety tests and was taken into custody, where he registered a 0.14 percent blood alcohol content on a breath test, the report said.

• HARASSMENT: Anthony Paul Martinez, 16, 6395 Old Niagara Road, was charged Monday with second-degree harassment. Martinez, a resident at Wyndham Lawn Home, punched and pushed another resident, then fled into the City of Lockport, the report said. Deputies located Martinez on Olcott Street.
