NIAGARA FALLS

Most Wanted suspect nabbed after tip

Tip calls from the public led Falls police to one of Niagara’s Most Wanted on Sunday morning.

Juan Jose Ubiles, 24, 476 26th St., was taken into custody at his home. Officers found him hiding in the attic.

Ubiles was arraigned in City Court and pleaded not guilty on Monday to charges of first- and second-degree robbery and second-degree assault. He was jailed in lieu of bail of $7,500 cash or $15,000 property and is due back in court Friday for a preliminary hearing.

He is accused of a car-jacking in the 3000 block of Niagara Street on May 6. Investigators said Ubiles pointed a handgun at a woman’s head and told her, “Get out (expletive). I’m taking your car.”

Detectives are also charging Ubiles with an assault in the 3000 block of 20th Street on May 5. In that incident Ubiles and other suspects are accused of attacking a man and beating him with a shovel, a post hole digger, lawn chairs and other items.

TOWN OF LOCKPORT

Fire at Relco causes $10K in damage

A Chestnut Ridge Road business reported $10,000 in damage after an early morning fire in the break room Sunday.

Sheriff’s deputies and members of the Terry’s Corners Volunteer Fire Department responded to Relco, 7308 Chestnut Ridge Road, about 8:16 a.m.

Employees arriving for their shift found the break room was on fire and called 911. Damage was contained to that area, the report said. No injuries were reported.

Family displaced by fire

Several people, including three children, were treated for smoke inhalation Monday after an early-morning fire on Lincoln Place.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to an apartment at 6559 Lincoln Place for a report of a working residential structure fire.

A 29-year-old woman and a 38-year-old man were outside the home with their three children, the report said.

Deputies used a fire extinguisher on the fire, which had started on the kitchen stove, the report said.

The man, woman and their children were treated on-scene for smoke inhalation.

They told deputies they had been sleeping when the smoke alarm sounded, and they woke up to find the apartment filled with smoke. The fire appeared to have started due to an electrical problem in the stove.

The American Red Cross responded to the scene and transported the apartment residents to an area hotel for the night, the report said.

ONTARIO

Falls man is charged after drug raid

A Niagara Falls, Ontario, man faces drug charges after a raid at his home on Monday.

Robert Pellegrino, 27, 6009 Swayze Drive, is charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

Members of the Niagara Regional Police 2 District Detective Services Unit executed the search warrant at Pellegrino’s home and seized 5 1/2 pounds of marihuana, 5 1/2 ounces of hashish, and $10,000 in Canadian currency. The street level value of the marihuana is estimated to be at $25,000 and the value of the hashish is estimated to be $1,500.

Niagara Falls

• ARREST: A Falls woman was arrested on a shoplifting charge. Tina Louise Smith, 28, 758 17th St., Apt. 2, was charged with petit larceny. An employee of a store in the 1800 block of Pine Avenue told officers he watched Smith take items Monday afternoon. Police recovered $21 worth of stationary from Smith when she was taken into custody.

Olcott

• HARASSMENT: A Lockport-Olcott Road woman reported Sunday that her neighbor, with whom she has an ongoing dispute over the property line, came onto her property and began removing survey markers. A verbal argument ensued, and the woman said the man pushed her and struck her in the face, the report said. The woman said the man had been told several times to stay off her property. The man told deputies the woman pushed him and denied striking her. Neither person wanted to press charges and deputies advised the man to stay away from the woman’s house.

Clarence

• SHOPLIFTING: Jessica N. Sajdak, 17, of Ransomville, was charged last week with petit larceny. State troopers said they arrested Sajdak after she tried to steal merchandise from Spencer Gifts at the Eastern Hills Mall on Transit Road.
