Man wanted for jail escape captured

U.S. border officials say they arrested a Virginia man wanted for escape after he was refused entry to Canada.

Customs and Border Protection authorities say 43-year-old Todd Sterling Heise of Woodford, Va., was arrested Friday at the Rainbow Bridge border crossing in Niagara Falls.

Heise gave U.S. customs agents a fake name and told them that because he had a criminal record, Canadian agents had refused to let him into that country to visit the Falls. A fingerprint check revealed his true identity.

A felony arrest warrant was issued last Wednesday for Heise, two days after he escaped from the Fauquier County Adult Detention Center. He is awaiting extradition to Virginia. It couldn’t be immediately learned what he was jailed for in Virginia.

• THEFT: Police are investigating a theft from a Niagara Street auto repair shop. The shop owner said a man entered the business in the 2300 block of Niagara Street at 12:37 p.m. Monday and asked about some tires. The owner said he went to the rear of the business to check his supply and when he returned to the front counter he saw the suspect run out with an undetermined amount of cash taken from a register. The suspect was last seen running north on 24th Street.

• FIGHT: A Buffalo woman reported Sunday she was at a pre-wedding party for a friend Saturday at the Roadhouse on Ridge Road. The woman said she argued with another woman because the other woman wanted to drive, even though she was intoxicated, the report said. The woman told police the other woman hit and grabbed her in the parking lot. The woman did not want to file charges, but wanted the report on file in case other problems occur at the wedding in July.

The woman also found 12 pennies had been glued to the siding of the house. The glue residue reportedly caused about $100 in damage to the siding.

• VANDALISM: A Nickett Drive man reported Monday that overnight, someone slashed the two rear tires on his 2002 Dodge Caravan, which was parked outside his home. The front tires had been slashed the night before, the report said. Damage to the back tires is estimated at $250.
