Police investigate death on Chippawa
Niagara Regional Police retreated from a Chippawa Parkway home, after finding it “wired” and a man dead inside.
Police said they were called to the Niagara Falls, Ontario home, at 4140 Chippawa Parkway, at approximately 8:30 p.m. Monday. They were asked to “check the welfare” of the resident of the home.
When officers entered the home, they found the 46-year-old male resident dead in an upper bedroom. Officers also discovered what they called an overwhelming amount of wires and irregular wiring connections throughout the home.
Although the death did not look suspicious, police immediately left the house and cut the power supply to the home. They then set up a overnight guard and prepared to re-enter the home Tuesday, when better lighting conditions were available during the day.
Tuesday morning, Regional Police uniform officers, detectives, the Niagara Regional Explosives Disposal Unit, the Hamilton Police Explosive Disposal Unit, Niagara Falls Fire Department, Niagara Emergency Medical Service paramedics re-entered the dwelling. Homeowners in the immediate area were either evacuated or asked to remain in their homes.
After an extensive search, the home was declared safe.
Detectives have now taken over the investigation. Police are not, at this time, releasing the identity of the dead man or his cause of death.
