DWI charges follow accident

A Niagara Falls woman faces drunken driving charges after an accident that shut down a portion of Niagara Falls Boulevard Monday afternoon.

Lorraine Wilcox, 48, of Cayuga Village, was charged with driving while intoxicated, improper left turn and improper lane change.

Falls Traffic Division investigators said Wilcox was trying to make a left turn from the boulevard on to 85th Street when she slammed — almost head-on — in a car traveling eastbound. Despite extensive damage to the 2008 Nissan, police said the driver and lone occupant of the vehicle was not badly hurt.

Police said Wilcox appeared to be intoxicated and failed numerous field sobriety tests at the scene. She later registered a blood alcohol level of 0.28 percent on a Breathalyzer test.

Man charged with assaulting mother

A man is facing a felony assault charge after police said he choked his mother during an argument at their Locust Street home on Mother’s Day.

Michael R. Frischholz, 22, was charged Sunday night with second-degree assault and two counts each of second-degree menacing and second-degree harassment.

Officers responded to the home about 9 p.m. for a report of a domestic argument. They entered the home and found Frischholz holding his mother by the throat, pinning her to the couch.

Frischholz released his mother when he saw the officers enter and was taken into custody.

The woman told police she had returned home and found Frischholz was highly intoxicated. He became verbally and physically abusive and threw his sister to the kitchen floor, the report said.

When his mother began yelling at him, telling him to stop, he grabbed her and threw her down on the couch, pinning her down with his hands around her throat, the report said.

Frischholz’s mother and sister were not injured during the incident, but they told police they were scared for their safety.

Frischholz was held without bail.

$400 lost to travel scam

A Dysinger Road woman reported Monday that she was conned out of $400 after receiving a call Friday saying she’d won a travel prize.

The caller informed the woman she had won a $4,000 travel package, the report said.

In order to claim the prize, the woman would have to pay the taxes on the trip in advance on a credit card.

The woman told the caller she only had a debit card. The caller asked for the first four digits of the card number to see if the woman was still eligible, the report said.

The woman provided the numbers. She said the caller then engaged her in a lengthy conversation about the vacation, telling her the taxes on the trip would be $400.

At the end of the conversation, the woman realized she had given away her entire debit card number, one part at a time, the report said.

• BURGLARY: Police are investigating a burglary in the 100 block of Hyde Park Boulevard. A 51-year-old woman told officers that sometime between 9 and 10:30 a.m. Monday someone broke into her home through a window. The victim said a digital camera, a coin collection and some jewelry was taken.

Pendleton

• LARCENY: A Mapleton Road woman reported Saturday morning that overnight someone entered her unlocked car in her driveway and stole a Remingon pocket knife worth $50.

• LARCENY: A Blackman Road teen told deputies that someone stole his LG EnV cell phone from an unlocked gym locker at Starpoint High School in February. The teen said he is reporting the theft now because Verizon is going to attempt to find out if anyone has activated the phone. It’s worth $100.

City of Lockport

• VANDALISM: A South Street man reported Monday morning that he heard his car's alarm go off about 1:18 a.m. and went outside to check on it. He said he found the car had been scratched. The damage is estimated at $1,000.

Gasport

• LARCENY: A Ridge Road woman reported Sunday that overnight, someone stole a black lawn jockey from her front yard. The lawn jockey is worth $1,200, the report said.
