BLOTTER: Police reports published May 4, 2008

Niagara Falls
• DWI: Joseph B. Jones Jr., 44, 1373 Ontario Ave., was charged at 12:15 a.m. Saturday with driving while intoxicated, possession of a controlled substance, drinking alcohol in a moving vehicle and no seat belt. An officer noticed backed-up traffic along 18th Street waiting to turn onto Pine Avenue. Despite the light being green, Jones did not drive through. The officer blew his horn loudly twice to alert Jones, to no avail. The officer approached the vehicle to find Jones asleep with an open 40-ounce bottle of alcohol between his legs while his car was running, according to the police report. Jones also allegedly had what appeared to be rocks of crack cocaine in his left hand, which the officer took, causing Jones to wake up.
• BREAK-IN: A car parked along the 3000 block of Pine Avenue was broken into between 10 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. Saturday, the victim reported to police. The driver’s side window was smashed and a GPS navigator and XM satellite radio were taken.
• RESISTING ARREST: Christopher J. Zimmerman, 41, no available address, was charged at 10:55 a.m. Friday with resisting arrest and blocking government administration. An officer was escorting Zimmerman to an elevator when Zimmerman began kicking at him. The officer physically restrained Zimmerman and during a transfer to police headquarters, Zimmerman said he was going to kill the officer and “get even” with the workers at the Social Security office, according to the police report.
• ALCOHOL: Debbie A. Miller, 40, 601 Pine Ave., was charged at 12:37 a.m. with restricted use of alcohol in a public place. Police approached a group of people sitting on a bench and Miller had an open 40-ounce bottle of malt liquor, according to e police. She was released on an appearance ticket.
• FIGHT: A juvenile flagged down an officer along the 1500 block of LaSalle Avenue around 6:10 p.m. Friday to report an assault. The juvenile stated he got into a fight with several peers, in which he was struck on the head with a metal pipe. The victim said he was in pain and the officer observed swelling and redness. The victim received on-scene medical attention before being transferred to Memorial Medical Center.
• ALCOHOL: Michael Maye, 24, 1148 Ashland Ave., was charged at 12:06 a.m. with restricted use of alcohol in a motor vehicle. An officer noticed a vehicle parked in an empty parking lot and approached to find Maye in the driver’s seat drinking Hennesey out of a plastic cup, according to the police report. He was charged and released on an appearance ticket.
Town of Niagara
• CHARGED: Tracy Scott Russell, 46, 4737 Hermitage Road, Niagara Falls, was charged with driving while intoxicated and an inadequate plate lamp. The patrol observed Russell’s vehicle traveling north on Military Road with no functional rear license plate lamps. The vehicle made an incorrect turn and ended up on the south shoulder of Grauer Road. Russell failed field several field sobriety tests and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Niagara Court on Monday.
