BLOTTER: Police reports published April 30

Staff Reports
Niagara Gazette

Niagara Falls

• INCIDENT: A 27-year-old city man was taken to Erie County Medical Center after slitting his own throat in the parking lot of Target, 7414 Niagara Falls Blvd. about 1 p.m., according to police. Officers said the man was attempting to commit suicide and had used a box cutter. He was found near the white fence in the parking lot and treated by Niagara Falls firefighters before being taken to ECMC. Hospital staff said the man was still in the emergency room Tuesday night.

• CHARGED: Three men were charged by Roving Anti-Crime Unit officers after the car they were traveling in was stopped about 1 a.m. Sunday on the 400 block of Fourth Street. Aarien Robinson, 27, 527 Fifth St., Apt. 1; Dedrick G. Williams, 28, 512 Sixth St.; and Johnny Wynn, 25, 490 20th St., were all charged with restricted use of alcohol after officers found two open bottles of Hennesey in the car.

• CHARGED: Peter G. Volpe, 37, Hamburg, was charged with first-degree loitering about 9:30 p.m. Saturday after RAC officers stopped him in the area of a known drug house on the 700 block of Eighth Street.

• BURGLARY: A contracting crew found water pouring into a basement in the 1400 block of Walnut Avenue Tuesday morning after someone stole a small quantity of copper pipe and a water meter from the vacant house Monday night.

City of Tonawanda

• WARRANT: Amanda M. Monkelbaan, 18, 359 71st St., Niagara Falls, was arrested Tuesday morning on a warrant for original offenses of criminal impersonation and falsely reporting an incident on Oct. 31, 2007. Monkelbaan is being held in lieu of $2,500 bail.

Ransomville

• DOG BITE: A Yongstown-Lockport Road woman told deputies her son was playing in a yard on Ransomville Road Sunday when he grabbed at a dog’s face and the dog nipped at him. The boy was checked out by Ransomville Fire Department volunteers. He had a small red mark on the inside of his upper lip, but the skin was not broken, the report said. The owner of the dog provided proof of the rabies vaccination.

Wilson

• VANDALISM: The owner of Young Street Laundry reported Tuesday morning that someone put two large holes in the drywall inside the business and sprayed soda around the inside. Neighbors reportedly saw juveniles in the area. Damage was estimated at $500.

City of Lockport

• CHARGED: Christopher A. Santiago, 27, 192 Erie St., upper, was charged Monday afternoon with second-degree harassment, third-degree menacing and endangering the welfare of a child. Santiago allegedly fought with a woman in the bathroom at his home, calling her names and throwing razors, lotion and a shampoo bottle at her while he was in the shower. The woman went into the living room, and when Santiago got out of the shower he allegedly walked in and pushed her into the couch, yelling, “I’ll burn this (expletive) house down. I’m taking everything. I’ll beat you up. I’ll kill you.” Santiago’s 3-year-old daughter was in the room, the report said. The woman went to a home on Niagara Street and called 911. Santiago was held without bail and is due today in Lockport City Court.

Town of Lockport

• ID THEFT: An Academy Lane woman reported Monday that she noticed several charges to her Key Bank debit card. There were eight different purchases made Sunday totaling $226.73, the report said.

Newfane

• FRAUD: A Hope Lane man reported Monday that he received a phone message from someone claiming to be an employe of the IRS. The caller identified himself as “Bogs” and left a badge number. He advised the man to call a phone number. The man called and got an answering machine that instructed him to leave his name and social security number. He did so, but after leaving the message he became suspicious and called his accountant. The accountant told him the IRS would never call him and that he should file a police report and place an alert on his credit.
