TOWN OF TONAWANDA

Bathroom stay ends in drug arrest

A man who tried to pass himself off as a police officer in order to use a gas station bathroom ended up meeting some real police Tuesday night.

Town police were called a Mobil station by an attendant who told dispatchers she was worried about a police officer who had been in the store’s bathroom for an extended period of time. Officers arrived to find Sean Y. Mangan inside the bathroom with a gold badge that said Buffalo Special Police on his belt, according to police reports.

The clerk told police Mangan told her he was new on the force, and that the people at Rite Aid wouldn’t let him use the bathroom there. When police questioned the staff at Rite Aid, they were told Mangan purchased syringes at the store but was denied use of the bathroom.

A search of the Mobil bathroom turned up several syringes filled with clear liquid in the trash can. Mangan was found to have a bag of cocaine on him and admitted that there was cocaine in the syringes.

Back at the station, Mangan told police he had just gotten a new job and wanted to party. Field tests registered positive for cocaine when the powder was tested. Mangan was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, possession of a hypodermic instrument and criminal impersonation for claiming to be a police officer. He was held for court.
