Man faces gun charge after bail from city jail
A Niagara Falls man is back behind bars after cops say they caught him with a gun just a day after he was released from jail on bail from drug and related charges.
Terrance S. Lewis, 38, 1158 Garden Ave., Apt. 2, was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon after cops caught him with a .22-caliber revolver and one round of ammunition during a traffic stop on the Highland Avenue bridge on Saturday afternoon.
Officer Kevin Henderson stopped the car Lewis was riding in, after determining he fit the description of a man who had just taken a gun from a backyard on Linwood Avenue.
Police had chased Lewis in the 1600 block of Linwood Avenue on Thursday night. When he was taken into custody then, he had more than half a gram of powdered cocaine and 3 grams of marijuana, both packaged for sale, in his possession.
He was arraigned Friday in City Court and pleaded not guilty to charges of fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of marijuana and resisting arrest. Lewis was released from custody on a $1,000 bail bond and had been scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Wednesday.
