OFF THE PRESS: "LaBella Mafia," by Morgan St. James and Dennis N. Griffin (Houdini Publishing, 222 pages, paperback, $14.95) is the story of Bella Capo, who began life as the abused child of a power broker with ties to organized crime and a drug addicted mother. She ended up fleeing Los Angeles in fear for her life when her ex-husband and his associates stalked her, threatening her with death. Later she co-founded LaBella Mafia, an online group that provides assistance and counseling to abuse victims. Any book related to Mafia activities always proves a good seller in the Buffalo-Niagara area. Longtime residents are familiar with that subject. Publication is set for Oct. 15.

"The Life and Times of Suspension Bridge Village," by Daniel I. Davis (Create Space, 104 pages, paperback, $16.50) is the story of the North End community that was incorporated as the City of Niagara Falls on March 17, 1892. The book was released Wednesday.
