LETTERS: No need to be confused

Niagara Gazette

No need to be confused

There have been a lot of ads in the paper lately sponsored by Chemical Waste Management. The ads claim that CWM preserves the environment and is a good corporate citizen.

Residents for Responsible Government, which does not want CWM to expand, cannot match CWM’s advertising dollars. RRG, made up of volunteer citizens, does not have the money to spend that such a large corporation does.

Some people wonder if CWM really is an asset to the community, as it claims, or a detriment. That shouldn’t be hard for anyone to determine. We know that the business of CWM is to import toxic wastes into this community from all over the country, Canada and Puerto Rico. The dangerous wastes are trucked by our homes and schools, and the trucks sometimes leak.

Now CWM wants a new permit so as to expand and bring more toxics for many more years to come.

Ours is the only community in New York, New Jersey, New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine, Massachusetts, Connecticut or anywhere in the Northeast that allows and welcomes such a business.

Is it to our benefit to have thousands of tons of toxic materials brought here? Is that good for the environment?

The answer is pretty obvious, isn’t it?

Words of support

I am asking you to support my friend Bob Weller for the Lewiston-Porter Board of Education. Having known Bob for over 20 years, I find him to be honest, open and accessible.

Now is the time for a common sense look at the school district.

I feel that Weller’s common sense and management experience makes him the perfect choice for our community. I urge you to vote for my friend Weller on May 20. You’ll be glad you did.
