Selma Theresa (nee Faddoul) Washburn of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on Tuesday, November 27, 2012, in Mt. St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston, NY, after a brief illness. She was the widow of Robert W. Washburn, to whom she was married for 56 years. They were the devoted parents of a daughter, Judith Washburn (Kevin Lenney) of Alden, NY.
Born and raised in Niagara Falls, NY, Selma was the daughter of Nahem and Amelia (Solomon) Faddoul. She graduated from Trott Vocational High School, and was a lifelong member of the now merged Our Lady of Lebanon Parish, where she sang for many years in the choir and was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She recently became a member of Holy Family Parish in Niagara Falls, and also attended Maronite Rite Catholic services at St. John Maron Church in Williamsville when possible. Selma was currently an active member of the Our Lady of Lebanon Senior Society, and had been an active member of the Catholic Daughters of America her entire adult life. In her younger days, she worked at the former Nabisco plant in Niagara Falls. Selma was an avid reader, a keen and insightful political observer, and a loyal Buffalo Sabres, New York Yankees and Notre Dame fan.
In addition to her daughter, Selma is survived by her brothers, Joseph, of Niagara Falls, and George (Dorothy) of the Town of Niagara; and brother-in-law, William Washburn (Linda) of Ringgold, GA. Additional survivors include numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and her, Aunt Lucille (Solomon) Mudd. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Jeannette and Harry G. DeBan; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Beatrice (Washburn) and Raymond Kubicki.
Friends may call on Saturday, December 1st, from 6-8 PM, and on Sunday, December 2nd from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at the OTTO REDANZ FUNERAL HOME, 2215 Military Rd., Niagara Falls, NY (Town of Niagara). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, December 3rd at 10:00 AM in Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Parish, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1413 Pine Ave., Niagara Falls, NY, with Rev. Stewart Lindsay, OSFS, officiating. Friends are asked to gather at the church. Interment will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston, NY.
