Jerry H. Hurtgam, age 70, of Ransomville, fell asleep in Jesus on Monday, November 26, 2012, at his home after a lengthy illness. Jerry was born on December 9, 1941 in Niagara Falls, NY, the son of the late Herbert R. and Mildred (Schultz) Hurtgam.
He was a 1959 graduate of Wilson Central High School. Jerry was past owner and operator of J Hurtgam Farms and sold produce at Niagara Falls and North Tonawanda farmers markets. He served in various roles on the Farm Bureau, Niagara County Cooperative Extension, and the Lake Plains Vegetable Growers. Jerry was a lifelong member of St. Peter Lutheran Church at North Ridge, where he served as usher and member of the finance committee. Faith, family, friends, farming, and Bluegrass music fulfilled his life.
Jerry is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Brenda (Schendel) Hurtgam; two sons, Jeff (Harmony) Hurtgam and Jay (Cassandra) Hurtgam, both of Ransomville; a daughter, Jodie Hess of Hilton, NY; four grandchildren, Emma, Abigail, Allison and Nathan Hurtgam; and a brother, Charles (Maggie) Hurtgam of Greene, NY.
Friends may call at St. Peter Lutheran Church at North Ridge, 4169 Church Rd., Town of Cambria on Saturday, December 1st from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM in the Church with the Rev. Robert Hoffman officiating. Burial will follow in St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery.
