Patricia (nee Jackson) (Soro) Whitcher, 72, of Youngstown, NY, passed away on Friday, February 1, 2013, at her residence, surrounded by her loving family, while under the care of Niagara Hospice. Born on May 14, 1940 in Niagara Falls, NY, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Clara (Bowman) Jackson.
Mrs. Whitcher was raised in the Town of Niagara, NY. Pat, as she was known by family and friends, attended local schools as well as the Nursing Program at the former Trott Vocational High School. On October 18, 1975, she married Thomas E. Whitcher in the Town of Niagara, NY. With the training, Mrs. Whitcher, acquired from Trott, Pat was honored to be able to care for many family members over the years.  In 1970, she was one of the first women to be hired by Union Carbide on Buffalo Avenue, where she became a Specialty Machinist. Upon the closing of Union Carbide, Mrs. Whitcher was employed by Calato Manufacturing on Hyde Park Blvd., where she worked all aspects of wood product manufacturing.  Following her employment at Calato Manufacturing, Pat and her husband, Thomas, formed TPS Manufacturing, which was a wood product manufacturing corporation. She served as President of their business until her retirement, due to illness, in 2002. After retirement, her and Thomas traveled the United States and spent the winter months in both Arizona and Florida.
In addition to her beloved husband of thirty-seven years, Mrs. Whitcher is survived by six children, Terri Soro of Niagara Falls, NY, James (Judith) Soro of East Greenbush, NY, Lori (Michael) Fairl of North Boston, NY, Cynthia Skubis of Youngstown, NY, Scott Whitcher of the Town of Niagara, NY and Keith Whitcher of Georgia; eight grandchildren; her loving Goddaughter and Caregiver, Katrina Anklewicz of Youngstown, NY; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, Pat was predeceased by two brothers; and her former husband, Salvatore Soro.
The family will be present to receive friends on Monday from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM in the Chapel of OTTO REDANZ FUNERAL HOME, 2215 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY (297-9007), where a funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 5th at 10:00 AM with Rev. Bernice K. Richardson officiating. A private interment will be held in Niagara Falls Memorial Park Cemetery, Lewiston, NY.
