James J. Muscato, longtime resident of Niagara Falls, Marine Corps and WW II veteran, passed on Saturday, December 1, 2012. He was 88. He was born on November 25, 1924, in Dunkirk, NY.
After high school in 1942, Jim joined the U.S. Marine Corps serving in the Pacific Theatre on Midway Island with the Marine Scout Bombing Squadron VMSB 333. After World War II, Jim moved to Niagara Falls and was employed by Joseph B. Manrina Motors in Tonawanda, NY. Later, he was employed in auto sales at Kelloge Chevrolet and Massaro Chevrolet, where he won several auto sales awards as top salesman. Jim was a faithful Buffalo Bills fan and a very faithful Marine Corps veteran, always flying the Marine Corps and American flags on his front porch. Jim was always helping his sick or disabled relatives.
He was predeceased by his six brothers and sisters, Marion (Bill) Muscato, Mary Tyler, Rosalind Manarina, Clara Kingsly, Jessie Muscato and Charles Muscato. Survivors include his close and enduring partner of 39 years, Dorothy Cole and her daughter, whom he thought of as his own, Mary Jane Cole-Lampman; nieces, Cindy Manarina of Buffalo and Mary Ellen Ashby of Florida; nephews, Joseph A. Manarina of Amherst, Richard J. Manarina of Niagara Falls, William Muscato of Texas, James Muscato of California, Dennis Kingsly of Elmira, NY, Joey and Michael Manarina of Florida, and Joseph Muscato of California.
Friends may call on Sunday from 1-4 PM in the LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 8622 Buffalo Avenue, Niagara Falls, where the Rev. Lynn Shumway will say prayers at 4 PM. Interment will be private in Gate of Heaven Cemetery on Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorials, if desired, may be made to the American Heart Association, St. Jude or to Toys for Tots.
