After a long illness, Marcia Rajczak of Lewiston, NY, passed away on Monday, November 19, 2012, in Niagara Hospice Home, Lockport , NY. She was born in Niagara Falls, NY, on April 4, 1949, the daughter of Sophie (Fortuna) Rajczak and the late Joseph Rajczak.
Marcia attended Buffalo State College and Niagara University. She was an educator in the Niagara Wheatfield School District for more than thirty years. She taught English at NW Senior High School and Math at Edward Town Middle School, as well as two years at St. Joe's Collegiate Institute. During her tenure, Marcia mentored students in a variety of clubs and served as Building Representative for the Niagara Wheatfield Teachers Association. Marcia was a beloved teacher to her students who frequently kept in touch with her well beyond graduation.
After Marcia retired from teaching, she continued to serve her colleagues on the Board of Directors at the Niagara Wheatfield Federal Credit Union. She also taught for a short period of time at Niagara University. As a longtime member and president of Delta Kappa Gamma, a professional honorary society of women educators, Marcia led her colleagues in activities that gave back to the community. Her projects included an annual auction to raise money for young, single mothers, making blankets for the patients at Roswell Cancer Institute and the establishment of two scholarships for young women who wanted to go into the field of teaching. Marcia was a longtime member of Holy Trinity Church where she sang in the choir. She loved traveling, making hand-made cards and crafts for friends and family and taking photographs. Marcia particularly enjoyed going to the theater and reading mystery books and even joined the Red Hat Society.
In addition to her mother, Marcia is survived by her Goddaughter, Remy (Gary) Orlowski of Tonawanda; and was the niece of Ciel Rodino of Lewiston, NY. She is also survived many cousins.
The family will be present on Friday from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 901 Cayuga, LEWISTON, NY. Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday at 10:00 AM at the Historic Holy Trinity-Church, 1419 Falls Street, Niagara Falls, NY, with Rev. Jacek P. Mazur officiating. Memorials may be made in her name to the Holy Trinity Preservation Fund or to Niagara Hospice. Interment in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Lewiston, NY.
