Mary Machanian

PHOENIX, AZ — Mary Machanian, 85, of Phoenix, AZ, rode the satin pony into the heavens on Tuesday morning, July 2, 2013.

She was born Mary Osadac in Welland, Ontario, Canada, where she lived until 1947 when she married the love of her life, Mike Machanian. They resided in Niagara Falls, NY until moving to Phoenix in 1963.

Mary was both spirited and spiritual, showing a strong faith and devotion to her family and friends. She was a real estate agent, owned an advertising/public relations firm, and was the first secretary for the Fiesta Bowl.

She extended hospitality to all, becoming a master of family recipes from the Ukraine and      Armenia and sharing her culinary creations - and great sushi - with everyone who crossed her threshold. In retirement, she filled her days with traveling, gardening and hobbies from crafts to canasta.

Mary was predeceased by her husband, Mike; her son, Gary; her twin sister, Anne Granieri and two brothers, Peter Osborne and Steve Osadac.

She is survived by daughters, Alice Atkinson (John Mehringer) and Caron Avakian (Doug Avakian); two grandsons, Jeremi and Michael Avakian and many loving nieces and nephews throughout the U.S. and Canada.

Truly blessed does not begin to express the family's gratitude for having had her in our lives, and we will always walk with her hand-in-hand on a path she lit with love and kindness.

A celebration of Mary's life will be held Friday, July 19th, at 11:00 AM  at Scottsdale Worship Center, 6508 East Cactus Rd., Scottsdale, AZ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Premier Hospice, 4530 E. Shea Blvd., #165, Phoenix, AZ 85028.
