Joseph M. DiLaura, Sr.


Joseph M. DiLaura, Sr., 82, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on Sunday, September 8, 2013 at his residence while under the care of Niagara Hospice. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Geswaldo and Sadie (LaBarbera) DiLaura.
Joseph was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, NY. He attended local schools and graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1949. He served in the United States Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve with the 107th Squadron. On May 26, 1956, he married Dolores (DeSalvo) DiLaura at the former Our Lady of Lebanon Church in Niagara Falls. He was employed at National Fuel in Niagara Falls, NY and retired as a foreman in 1996 after forty-five years of service. Joe was an avid sports fan who especially enjoyed basketball and football. He loved playing basketball in leagues at the Boys and Girls Club in Niagara Falls, and was a fan of the Buffalo Bills and NY Yankees. Mr. DiLaura's family wishes to express a sincere thank you to the staff of Niagara Hospice, for the devoted care and compassion given to Joseph.
In addition to his wife of fifty-seven years, Mr. DiLaura is survived by his four children, Joseph (Diane Guthrie) DiLaura, Sr., Patrick DiLaura, Michael A. DiLaura, all of Niagara Falls, NY and Ann Marie Mueller of the Town of Wheatfield, NY; four grandchildren, Christopher Golden, Kaitlyn Marie Mueller, Joseph M. DiLaura III and Samantha J. Di Laura; one brother, Patrick (Fran) DiLaura of Ransomville, NY; his son-in-law, Keith Mueller; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
There will be no prior visitation. Private funeral services and interment in St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Niagara Hospice, Inc., 4675 Sunset Dr., Lockport, NY 14094. Arrangements by M.J.
