Claus D. Leyder, of Lewiston, NY, passed away on Wednesday, November 6, 2013, in Mt. St. Mary's Hospital. He was born in Stuttgart, Germany, on November 13, 1940, the son of the late  Maria (Reeke) Manukian and Erich Leyder. Mr. Leyder came to Niagara Falls, NY, with his family in 1953.
He was a graduate of Niagara Falls High School. He had lived in California with his wife for eight years, before moving back to Lewiston in 1967. Mr. Leyder was a millwright at Harrison Radiator and Delphi in Lockport for 30 years before retiring in 2002. He was a member of UAW, the 3 F-Club, St. Peter's Church and the Fatima Shrine. Mr. Leyder was an avid sportsman and a Western New York Bow Instructor. He enjoyed model trains, traveling, music and spending time with his grandchildren.
Mr. Leyder is survived by his wife of 52 years, Barbara A. (Sandonato) Leyder; one son, Erich K. Leyder of Niagara Falls, NY; two daughters, Lynette M. (Richard) Massaro of Williamsville, NY and Colette R. (Jay) Gormley of Kenmore, NY; five grandchildren, Rachel, Richard, Ryan, Bridget and Gretchen; also several nieces and nephews.
The family will be present on Sunday from 3-7 PM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 901 Cayuga Street, LEWISTON, NY, where funeral services will be held on Monday at 9:30 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Peter's Church, 620 Center Street, Lewiston, NY, with Msgr. David G. LiPuma officiating. Memorials may be made in his name to The Fatima Shrine or to Roswell Park Cancer Institute. Interment in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY.
