NIAGARA FALLS — John J. Arraiz, 74, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on Wednesday, October 23, 2013, at his residence, under the loving care of his daughters and Niagara Hospice. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Jose M. and Mary J. (Serianni) Arraiz.

John was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, NY. He attended local schools and graduated from the former Trott Vocational High School. He served in the United States Army from 1957 until his honorable discharge in 1959, and continued to serve in the United States Army Reserves from 1959 until 1971. John was employed by the Carborundum Co., later known as Washington Mills, in Niagara Falls for over 40 years until retiring in 2002.

John was very artistic and a gifted painter. He was a certified Bob Ross Instructor and taught painting classes in Niagara Falls. John was also a passionate New York Yankees fan, as well as an avid golfer and bowler. In his leisure time, he enjoyed traveling but most important to John was spending time with his family and friends.

Mr. Arraiz fought a courageous battle with cancer. He embraced his illness and always       remained positive, faithful and encouraging to his family during this time. John's family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. Thomas Loree, Dan Ford and their staff for their dedicated and compassionate care.

John is survived by his three daughters, Shari (James) Payne, Sr. of Ransomville, NY, Lisa (Keith) Wittman of Niagara Falls, NY, and Deanna (Michael) DiFilippo of Wheatfield, NY; six grandchildren, James Payne, Jr., Anthony Payne, Trisha Payne, Amanda Wittman, Samantha Wittman and Olivia Wittman; one brother, Charles (Susan) Arraiz of Savannah, GA; one sister, Carolyn (Raymond) Miller of Niagara Falls, NY and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be held on Monday from 4-8 PM at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA       FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, October 29th, at 10 AM at Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Parish at St. Joseph Church, 1413 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY, with Rev. Duane R. Klizek officiating. EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY.
